Mayfield Renovation
This project was an extensive home renovation completed in Mayfield, Newcastle.
This project consisted of a complete renovation of the existing home including 2 bathrooms (main and ensuite), 3 bedrooms and a 6m extension off the rear of the house with a 29m2 deck.
The major challenge we faced during this project was designing, sourcing and installing ultra-modern European style glass features consisting of a ceiling spanning 7.5m x 2.3m in the main kitchen/living area and a large 1.8m x 1.8m skylight above the shower. The design stage of this process alone was testing as we needed to tie the extension into the original part of the home while also ensuring the glass ceiling was engineered and constructed to the exact specifications the clients gave us. This resulted in numerous onsite meetings with engineering, steel fabrication, glaziers, roofers and most importantly the clients signing off every step of the way.
Once the design was agreed upon, the construction and install of the glass ceiling was our number one priority, as the rest of the renovation could not occur without completion of this major component. Progress was slowed on multiple occasions due to inclement weather, preventing us from installing the glass. Thankfully, once the build entered lock up phase, construction flowed much more efficiently.
Both bathrooms include luxurious underfloor heating, with the ensuite inclusive of a double shower under the glass ceiling. The main bathroom boasts a huge 280kg stone bath where the floor was specially engineered to carry the mammoth stone feature. All the internal and external doors were either original or sourced by the owner to keep in with the traditional federation style of the house. The original fretwork arch was removed and preserved during demolition then restored to be reinstalled back into the new hallway creating a major focal point as you enter the home.
This carefully renovated federation style home has been brought back to life along with the addition of some subtle but stylish modern features for our client to enjoy for decades to come.
